Biography of the Deputy Chief of Staff SUPPORT

Henning Weeke

Brigadier General Henning Weeke, born in 1968 in Gelsenkirchen, joined the German Armed Forces in 1987. Following his initial officer training, he pursued academic studies in political and administrative sciences at the University of the Bundeswehr
in Munich from 1989 to 1993. Upon graduation, he served as platoon commander in the Franco-German Support Battalion in Müllheim, and subsequently commanded logistic formations in Rheine until 2000.

After completing the General Staff Course at the Bundeswehr Command and Staff College in Hamburg (2000–2002), he attended the French General Staff training at the École de Guerre in Paris. From 2004 to 2008, he served in key posts at Eurocorps in Strasbourg, at the Federal Ministry of Defense (FMOD) in Bonn as Assistant for Multinational Affairs, and as the G3 of the German Land Systems Technical School in Aachen. His leadership appointments continued as Commander of the Franco-German Support Battalion in Müllheim and DACOS G4 and Acting Director of Staff at 1 German/Netherlands Corps in Münster (2009–2013).

Following two years as an exchange staff officer in the Planning Division of the État-Major des Armées in Paris (2013–2015), he became Chief of Staff of the DEU/FRA Brigade in Müllheim (2015–2016). He subsequently directed the National General
Staff Course (LGAN 2016) at the Führungsakademie in Hamburg, before serving as the overall implementation officer for the PESCO Network of Logistic Hubs in Europe and for operational support at the German Logistic Command in Erfurt, further
highlighting his commitment to European and NATO defense cooperation.

From 2020 to 2022, he was Branch Head within the Strategy and Operations Directorate of the FMOD in Berlin, focusing on material sustainment of operations and the German Enable and Enhance Initiative. He then served as Head of Office and Personal Assistant to State Secretary Benedikt Zimmer until summer 2025.

Brigadier General Weeke’s operational experience includes deployments with IFOR, SFOR, and ISAF, alongside several standby periods as Battalion Commander and General Staff Officer within the NATO Response Force, EU Battlegroups, and Joint Task Force Headquarters (2006–2016).

Throughout his career, he has been honored with the Bundeswehr Cross of Honor in Bronze, Silver, and Gold, as well as German and NATO deployment medals. France has also awarded him the Médaille de la Défense Nationale in Silver and Gold for distinguished service.

On 18 September 2025, he assumed responsibilities as Deputy Chief of Staff Support and Enablement as well as German Senior National Representative within HQ Eurocorps in Strasbourg, France.
